In August we will be looking at what we really believe. Expect a challenging and fun time as we learn about the foundations of our beliefs.

Sunday morning July 26

Baseball anyone?

Is anyone interested in going to a San Luis Blues baseball game? How about leaving after church on Sunday, August 2? I believe that admission is $6. I can take 4 people. We will need more drivers if more than that want to go.

I believe that this is the last game of the season unless they go to the playoffs.

Let me know if you are interested. If there is interest, I will try to make this happen.

Sunday morning in July

Have you wondered why you should go to church? We are looking at what the Bible has to say about going to church. During the month of July, the Jr. High group is talking about this very subject. We started this topic at the end of June. We found that the Bible says we do need to meet together. The context of this meeting together seems to be as the local church. We saw that we need to meet together to encourage each other. At our last meeting, we talked about the church as the body of Christ. Next week we will explore what this means to us as part of the church.

As this is a Jr. High class, we may also have a mini lesson in addition to the main topic. These mini lessons are based on the direction of the conversations we have during the getting to know you part of our time together. Topics are not hard to come by as Jr. High kids often go off on tangents.

If this sounds interesting to you, and you are going into sixth grade or older, you are welcome to join us in the middle classrooms at 9:00 on Sunday morning. Don't worry about coming a few minutes late. Most of us don't show up until 9:03 anyway. We really get started about 9:05. Bagels, donuts, or some other treat shows up once in a while too.

Your parents don't have to drive home after dropping you off. There are some very good adult classes for them too.

You or your parents can contact me if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing you there this Sunday.

Steve

July 8 Youth Group

This Wednesday, July 8, Jr. High will meet at the church. We will start at 7:00. Don't be late as we will be leaving at about 7:15 to enjoy dinner together and then a few planned activities at the park. We will return to the church by 9:00.

We will need to have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian on file before you can leave the church with us. Don't get dropped off at the church without making sure we have permission to take you for dinner.

Bring a friend or two. If you are bringing friends, please let me know so that I can be sure to have enough money to buy the food. No, we're not going to the Paso Robles Inn. But I think you will like dinner.

At the park we will have some planned activities. You may even find that talking about God can be interesting.

See you there.

Build A Sandwich

Wow!  A spontaneous idea from youth leader, Steve Brooks, was brought to fruition in just a matter of days.  Kids, you did a great job setting up for and making sandwiches for all who wanted one today.  Steve, thanks for organizing such a great fundraiser for the kids.

A big thanks to all the families that donated supplies to make the Build A Sandwich lunch possible:  Pera's, Potters, Brooks', Jacobsma's,  Franklin's, Stophlet's.

A HUGE thanks to all the people and families in our wonderful church who supported the kids by buying lunch from them today.  Your donations totaled to just over $700.00.  This will go a long way to making camp more affordable for each student.

Sunday morning Jr. High Class-May 17

Last week we looked at a new person. His name is Jonathon. He is a good friend. Last week we looked at his background and how he became best friends with David. This week we will see how he showed his friendship to David. It is an exciting story. Come see what it means to be a friend.

Find me is over

No one found me on the web. You could see me at work at the tour bus crash in Soledad. This was on April 28 and I was on the news. This challenge is now over.

Of course my next challenge is still open. Find where you can find the verse that talks about "my name is graven on his hands". We sing a song that includes this line, but where is it in the Bible? There is a reward for the first person to tell me where you can find this in the Bible. Those who were at Youth Group tonight got a big clue. They know what book of the Bible it is in.

Next contest

There is a song that we sing that says our names are "graven on his hands". Is this from the Bible? If so, where is it? Tell me either Sunday morning or Wednesday night and there will be a prize for the first one to get it right. Wednesday night I challenged the Jr. High group to tell me what book of the Bible it could be found. Some took a guess but no one got it right. So I have to ask, is it even in the Bible?

Steve

Sunday morning study

Last Sunday we took a look at a guy named Joseph. Most people know him as Barnabas. He is my favorite character in the New Testament. It is encouraging to study Barnabas. You would know why if you were in Sunday Morning Jr. High Bible Study. The bagels were also very good.

This Sunday we will look at someone in the Old Testament. This person was a good friend. Come join us Sunday morning at 9:00 to find out who we will talk about. I'm also thinking that police officers would feel at home.

Sunday morning Jr. High class

Did you know that there is a class just for Jr. High on Sunday morning? There is!

The class meets in the middle room at 9:00 in the morning. This is the same time as the adult classes. So your parents have something to do while you are having a good time learning about God, the Bible, Jesus, each other, Steve, and other things of a more random nature.

Steve has been leading the class. We spend some time getting to know each other and talking about our week before we get into the Bible. This is usually a fun time and Steve even brings food once in a while.

We just finished reading through and doing an overview of the book of Revelation. We found that Revelation is not an easy book to get and there are several opinions about it even among christians who usually agree about the Bible. We did agree that the book of Revelation is a great comfort as it clearly shows God is in control. We also decided that heaven is going to be a real cool place.

We are going to start a new topic this Sunday. If you like to talk about people (no, not gossip) we are going to do just that. We will look at people in the Bible that you may not know much about or have even heard about. This will be fun. You might just learn something too.

Find me on the web

Let's make this interesting. Find a picture of me (Steve) on the web. I will give you a couple of clues to get started. First: Don't enter my name in a browser like Google. My name is not attached to the photo. Second: Think about where I work. Third: Think television.

I will have a prize for the first person who can tell me where they found the photo and what was happening in the photo. It is not an expensive prize but I think it will have value.

More clues will be posted if no one provides the correct answer.

One more hint. There are several photos with me in them. You might even find me "in action" but I am not doing anything more than walking. If you can identify me in these other places, you have done better than I would expect.

8th Grade Girls

Weekly bible study for 8th grade girls is now meeting on Wednesdays at 6 pm.  That's one hour before youth group begins.  We are studying on the topic of "Friendship" from God's point of view.

Are Your Needs Being Met

Check it out!  Youth group for Jr. High and Sr. High meet on Wednesdays from 7 pm - 8:45 pm each week.  Jr. High and Sr. High also have Sunday School at PRBC at 9:00 am Sundays each week.  Watch here for more info on fun stuff coming your way - including the possibility of Summer Camp at Hume Lake.

31 Cent Scoop Nite

It was 31 Cent Scoop Nite at Baskin Robbins tonight.  The Jr. High group spontaneously got permission from parents, hopped into 3 different staff vehicles, and made a quick trip to Baskin Robbins for scoops of ice cream.  17 Students and adults served for just under $10.00.  What a fun nite!  Lots of giggles, singing of praise music in cars, good conversation, guy bonding, and more.  The Jr. High crowd loves spontaneous times.  We love helping them have fun.  Slayde had fun too!

Fabulous Presentation

Wow!  I am encouraged at the depth of which our high school students were affected by their time at Hume winter camp.  Their group presentation, both Wednesday for the youth and again today for the entire congregation, was FABULOUS! God is certainly doing a good work in all of these young people.
Please be praying for each of them as they continue on their journey to getting to know the Lord better and in building those personal relationships with each other that are so important.  Having Godly friends is good, and even greater because these are the friends that will be with them for life, through the good and the bad.
My prayer is that God will bless each of them richly with knowledge and wisdom that can only come from Him, that they each will listen to his calling on their lives, and that they will continue to desire to grow on a daily basis.
God Bless PRBC High Schoolers!

High School - HUME LAKE!

We had an amazing time at Hume Lake this last weekend! Every single one of us, counselors included, were overwhelmed by God's preparation, conviction, and piercing of our hearts. One of the highlights was the Boxsled Blitz - we created the "Mystery Machine" and could fit our entire group in it! (Only 10 were allowed to go down the tube run in it though) We spent about 4 hours working on the boxsled as a team and then had a several hour snowball fight :) It was so great to see how God unified us over the course of 3 days by moving us to do those group activities and by meeting twice a day as a group just to discuss the messages and what God was putting on our hearts. Another highlight was our guys winning the Kirth Cup in broom hockey! That was incredible - and what's funny is it wasn't really a huge deal compared to all the intense work God had done on our hearts before the final game.

This last weekend was overwhelming on an emotional and spiritual level. Every single one of us was deeply affected - to the point of tears. The theme was Decision '09: deciding to truly follow Christ completely and let go of those things we are still holding onto, coming to Him broken so that He can fix us, and giving Him everything. All of the high schoolers made decisions on Saturday night, broken before God. As a group we stayed up until after 2 am sharing, crying, and praying. And I know we are all still processing what God did the last 4 days. He worked so much in every individual heart and in our group as a body, a family. Praise God!

Please pray for us that God is in us to complete that work that He started, that we pursue godly fellowship, that we serve Him with the entirety of our hearts, and that the unity that God created grows even more. Thank you parents and friends so so so much for your prayers - they were answered in an amazing way! Thank you high schoolers for the most incredible Hume Lake experience there may ever be and for seeking after God this last weekend. And thank you Lord of all for Your grace, Your faithfulness, Your holiness, and Your mighty hand in Your children's lives. We love you!

Welcome Home High School

We are looking forward to having our high schoolers share about their AWSOME trip to Hume Lake.  See you all on Wednesday.

Winter Camp 2009

Jr. High had a wonderful trip at the end of January.  While we would have liked the amount of snow viewed above we still had lots of fun with what was at Hume.  The kids enjoyed snowboarding, paintball, ice skating, tubing, the "boxsled blitz", "El Diablo" - the bull ride, and so much more.  We were all blessed by our speaker, Ron Merrell, who brought us an incredible message.  It really made an impact.  17 students made some type of a decision this year.  Praise God for such an impact!

In just a few days our Sr. High group is heading up to Hume for their weekend of fun and learning more from God's word.  They will have the snow as it has been storming for several days now.

Winter Camp is a highlight for each student that participates.  We pray not only for safety for each student, but also for their lives to be touched in a special way.  For God to work in their hearts and grow their relationship with him.  It is a unique and wonderful experience for each of us.

In the future - keep an eye on the blog for calendar information, activities, and more.
